about
This song started out as a little melody I was humming to myself as I was driving for work one day. It was a joke to me, like a goofy pop song, but I decided to record it on my phone anyway. When I got home that day and played it on guitar, suddenly the melody had more weight to it, and I felt some real emotion behind it.
I realized then not to discard ideas that I think sound silly in the moment (because just about anything can sound lame when you're making mouth noises). Once I added words to the melody, it really came alive.
This is somewhat of a sequel to our previous single, Flickering Out.
lyrics
I can't seem to read it, I can't seem to hide it
I just get defeated when I try to fight it
yeah, I am division, the fight is from within
'cause every decision becomes your religion
yeah, pride is a fire but so is desire
when I flicker lower, the wind fans me higher
and when I am higher, I burn myself lower
I can't strike a balance when I strike the lighter
fan into flame
burn me away
I know there's a reason for changing of seasons
'cause sometimes I'm reaching and then I need healing
yeah we serve a purpose that's not meant to hurt us
but we're our own curses and I am the worst at this
